The New Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler Jacket

Ruff Wear is introducing a great selection of new products on April 1st.  Recently we took a peek at the new Ruff Wear Doubleback Collar; another great new piece of gear for your dog is the new Swamp Cooler Jacket.

Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler Jacket

The concept is pretty ingenious.  The light colored jacket reflects sunlight, and when doused in water, uses evaporation to help keep your dog cool on those warm hikes.

Simply get the Swamp Cooler Jacket wet, ring it out, and put it on your dog.  The top air-mesh layer generates evaporation, releasing heat, while the the middle and bottom layers hold water and cool your dog.

The Swamp Cooler Jacket fits much like the Ruff Wear K-9 Overcoat and is made in XXS all the way through XL, fitting dog girths from 12" to 48" (30cm - 122 cm).

Suggested retail is $49.95.  Backcountry K-9 will have this new jacket available on April 1st for $46.99Sign-up now to get notification when it hits the shelves and get a coupon for another 10% off.

UPDATE: The Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler is now available at Backcountry K-9!

Measuring Your Dog's Paws for Dog Boots

Sizing up your dog's paws for a new pair of dog boots isn't quite as simple as just measuring the paw, but its close!

The catch is, your dog's feet flatten out and expand width-wise under weight and we need to take that into account when sizing up dog boots.

It only takes a minute; you'll need your dog, paper, pencil, and a ruler or tape measure.

  1. Have your dog stand on a firm surface like tile, concrete, or a wood floor.
  2. Place a piece of paper under one front paw.
  3. Lift the other front paw to put weight on the paw on the paper.
  4. Mark the widest part of the paw on the paper.
  5. Measure the distance between the marks.
  6. Repeat for the length or back paws if needed.

That's it.  You'll get more accurate measurements and be able to find the best fitting boot for your dog.

Check out Backcountry K-9's selection of Dog Boots:

- Ruff Wear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex: a great boot with a real boot sole for good protection.  4 boots in a set. If your dog is in between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.

- Granite Gear Endurance Dog Boots: a good boot at a solid price.  2 boots in a set; tight athletic fit.  If your dog is in between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.

- Granite Gear Mush Dog Boots: a good boot with a sole designed for traction on snow.  2 boots in a set; tight athletic fit.  If your dog is in between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.
